10 Brightest Objects in Night Sky.

Introduction :

During summers many stars and planets are visible due to the clearance of sky. Have You ever wondered which one is the brightest or tried to find out the brightest object in the night sky? If not then We are going to  provide the list of 10 Brightest Objects in Night Sky. 

In earth’s night sky there are many bright objects but did you know which is most brightest? There are many planets and stars which look from the earth. So let’s see which one is the brightest object.

1) The Moon 

Moon is the brightest object in the earth’s night sky. We all know that it is the natural satellite of earth. The distance of the moon from earth is 384,400 km. Moon can be easily seen from the earth.

2) Venus

Venus is the second Brightest object in the earth’s night sky. The distance of Venus from earth is 261 million Km. It is also the hottest planet in our Solar System. Venus can be easily seen in the earth’s night sky. It is also known as Morning Star.

3) Jupiter

Jupiter is the largest planet in our Solar system.  Jupiter is the third brightest object in the night Sky. The distance of Jupiter from earth is 588 million Km.

4) Sirius (α Canis Majoris)

Sirius is the brightest Star in earth’s night sky but it is the fourth brightest object in earth’s night sky. The distance of Sirius from earth is 8.611 light years. ( 1 ly is equal to the distance traveled by light in one year ). The another name of Sirius Dog Star. Certain Times Mars and Mercury Overtook Sirius Position in brightness. 

5) Mars

Mars, our Second home, is the fifth brightest object in earth’s night sky.  The distance of mars from earth is 54.6 million Km. The other of the mars is Red Planet.

6) Mercury 

Mercury is the sixth brightest object in earth’s night sky. It is the Smallest planet in the solar System.  The distance of mercury from earth is 77 million km. 

7) Canopus (α Carinae)

Canopus is a star in the constellation of carina, it is the second brightest star in the night sky.  Canopus is the Seventh brightest object in the night sky. It is located at a distance of 309.8 light-year from the earth. 

8) Saturn

Saturn is the second largest planet in our solar System.  It is the eighth brightest object in earth’s night sky. The distance of Saturn from earth is 1.5079 billion km. It is the sixth planet from the Sun.

9) Rigil Kentaurus (Alpha Centauri)

Rigil Kentaurus is the Ninth brightest object in earth’s night sky. This star is part of the three star System, the closest star system to earth.  The nearest star, proxima centauri , is also a part of this star system. The distance between earth and Rigil Kentaurus is 4.367 light years.

10) Arcturus (α Boötes)

Arcturus is the fourth Brightest star in the earth’s night sky. It is located in the Constellation of Bootes. Arcturus is the tenth brightest object in the night sky.  The distance between earth and Arcturus is 36.66 light years. 

How to Differentiate Between Stars & Planets ?

The difference between planets and stars is that planets don’t twinkle while stars have a poem on it’s twinkling. Stars are located at a huge distance from us as compared to the planets. Hence, while their light passes through the different layers of atmosphere they bends. As we all know the hot and cold layers of air keep moving, the bending of the light changes too.
